Have you ever seen a butterfly in the snow? Probably not. Woodchucks don't like cold weather either but they don't migrate; they hibernate. Find out how other animals cope with winter's worst weather. After the story we'll go out on a hike with activities tied to the story.

Guided Snowshoe Hike
Saturday, January 19th, 1:00 p.m.
Join the Pringle Naturalist for a guided hike through the snow covered woods. Snowshoes will be provided - this is a great way to try a new sport without having to buy expensive equipment. There must be at least 4" of snow on the ground. Pre-registration is required! Ages 10+

Just because it's cold outside, doesn't mean there's nothing to do! Bring out the entire family as Pringle shows you different ways to enjoy the winter weather. Different activities such as geocaching and snowshoeing are scheduled throughout the day. Come and leave when you like.

The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins

The wind blew, and blew, and blew! It blew so hard, it took everything with it: Mr. White’s umbrella, Priscilla’s balloon, the twins’ scarves, even the wig on the judge’s head. But just when the wind was about to carry everything out to sea, it changed its mind! After the story we'll go out on a hike with activities tied to the story.

Junior Girl Scouts Geocacher Badge

Geocaching is your chance to be part global explorer, part detective. You’ll search for treasure chests, known as caches, using a device called a GPS receiver to find each cache’s hiding place. Pre-registration is required! Download here

Great Backyard Bird Count: Feeder Building
Saturday, February 9th, 1:00 p.m.
The weekend before the national Great Backyard Bird Count, come and make a feeder for your backyard to count the birds. We will offer a short identification session, how to report data for the count, and some fun activities to learn about the birds. Supplies are limited. Pre-registration is required. Please bring your own hammer.

Valentine's Snowshoe Candlelight Hike
Friday, February 15th, 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Enjoy the winter wonderland at night with family, friends, and loved ones while on the candlelight trail at Bristol Woods County Park. Warm up afterwards by the crackling fire and refreshments will be served inside the nature center. There must be at least 4" of snow on the ground in order to use the snowshoes. Come and leave when you like.

Snowshoe Rental and Demonstration at KD Park
Saturday, February 16th, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
During the Kenosha County Parks Youth Ice Fishing Derby, Pringle will have snowshoes available for people to rent during the event. There must be at least 4" of snow on the ground in order to use the snowshoes.

Webelos Forester Badge
Saturday, February 16th, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Webelos scouts are invited to Pringle Nature Center to earn their forester badge. This program covers activities 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 in the Webelos Handbook. Friends and sibling are welcome to join this program if they are between the ages of 8 and 12. Spaces are limited and pre-registration is encouraged. Please arrive by 12:45 to check in. Please pre-register. There will be no same day registration.

Leave No Child Inside: Sky's the Limit
Saturday, February 23rd, 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Come and explore the night sky during the daytime! Join us as we use the inflatable StarLab Planetarium to look at the night sky and see what causes the seasons. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required! Children first grade and older are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Alongside his grandpa, a young boy shares the tasks involved in making maple syrup the old-fashioned way. From tapping the trees to boiling the sap, the two spend many hours working side by side in the woods. After the story we'll go out on a hike with activities tied to the story.

Imagine meeting a monkey or kicking up dust with a kangaroo. These animals live in the wild, so we don't get to spend time with them in their natural homes - their habitats. But that doesn't mean we can't find out more about where they live, how they play, and how we can help them!

Vernal Equinox Night Hike

Get rid of the winter blues and welcome spring. We will search for the early spring risers that live in the park as well as how different cultures welcomed the longer days and warmer weather. Please leave your flashlights at home as they distract from the experience. Pre-registration is required!

Flowers are so beautiful, we bring them from the outside into our homes to add cheer to the room. But there's more to flowers than just good looks. Without them, plants would not make seeds, and scientists think the world would be much drier.

Help use to continue to restore our Oak Savanna for another year. We will be cutting down buckthorn, multiflora rose, and other invasive plants. This also helps create open spaces in our woods for school children to explore when they are out here for programming. Please bring your own works gloves, tools will be provided.

Bring the mom in your life out to Pringle for a light brunch and then on the hour, a naturalist will led a hike to see the spring ephemeral wildflowers that are blooming.
